What is it to be an Immigrant Welcoming Church?

Special guest Rev Noel Anderson - to share alongside some of our own IUCC members about what it means to be an Immigrant Welcoming Church.

The United Church of Christ General Synod officially voted to designate itself an "Immigrant Welcoming Church" at its 31st General Synod in 2017. This resolution encouraged all congregations to advocate for migrant rights and, where possible, become Immigrant-Welcoming congregations. This Sunday we will hear about IUCC's history as well as the personal stories of what it's like to be part of an immigrant family.

OCEC has launched an LGBTQ+ Parent Support Group in partnership with Irvine United Congregational Church (IUCC), an open and affirming congregation for over 30 years. Although the group will meet on the IUCC campus, it is not a religious group.

This peer-led support group offers a space where parents can connect with others on similar parenting journeys. It's a place to share joys and frustrations, swap tips and resources, ask questions, and build a vibrant, supportive community.

We welcome all parents, guardians, family members, and loving friends. During meetings, we will also provide a dedicated space for kids, staffed by caring adults.

At IUCC, we believe in the power of prayer—and we recognize that it looks different for everyone. This group is open to all and offers a space to explore a variety of ways to pray, whether through silence, words, movement, or stillness. Together, we seek a deeper, conscious connection with the Sacred—something greater than ourselves.

This Sunday we celebrate PAAM Sunday by lifting up Pacific Islander and Asian congregants and those within the circle of IUCC as we celebrate the diversity of God's Creation.

We are participating in a pulpit exchange with several churches in the Southern California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ. Dustin Nguyen is heading to the Hemet UCC church where he'll be speaking to that congregation as well as the UCC church of Peris and we are welcoming Deacon Rody Nakamura of the Marshallese United Church of Christ of Orange County.

We will watch the The Last Days of Judas Iscariot produced by The Larking House and The Wayward Artist.

• To support the performers (and the cost of producing live theatre) the performance is not free. If you would like to attend this part of the evening, you will need to purchase a ticket online or at the door.

• In support of The Gospel Project, the director and cast will be hosting an exclusive talkback to discuss the themes and audience responses.

Participants of The Gospel Project will also receive discounted tickets—use code IUCC when purchasing.

The show runs for two weekends. If you choose to attend on an alternative date, please note that the free meal and talkback will only take place on Saturday, April 25.
