Arts for Activism - Creative Workshop with Angelica Rowell

Arts for Activism — A Six-Week Creative Workshop for Adults

In partnership with Irvine United Congregational Church and The Wayward Artist

Sign Up for Arts for Activism Workshop

This winter, we’re thrilled to welcome Angelica Rowell to lead Arts for Activism, a six-week creative workshop where art becomes a pathway to justice, curiosity, and connection.

Over six weeks, participants will explore complex social issues through music, poetry, theatre, movement, film, guided conversation, and creative practice. You’ll learn how artists across disciplines use their craft to resist, uplift, provoke, and inspire—and you’ll create your own original piece of activist art to share with the community. This workshop will be facilitated by Angelica Rowell (she/her) - Singer, Actress, Writer, Educator, and Activist.

Each week will introduce a major social issue - racism, immigration, sexism, queer rights, global injustice, environmental racism, and more—explored through music, poetry, theatre, dance, and film.

Participants will develop personal creative pieces, culminating in a live showcase.

Adults who care about justice, creativity, and meaningful conversation. No artistic experience required—just compassion, curiosity, and a willingness to explore.

When It Meets: Six Wednesdays, Jan 21-Feb25th • 6:00–9:00 PM, Showcase - March 1st

“When they saw the star, they were filled with joy.” — Matthew 2:10

If you would like to participate, you can:

• Drop something in the plate on December 21,

• Mail a check to the church (please write Christmas Fund in the memo), or

• Make a gift online and select Christmas Fund as your designation.

In Lucas Hnath’s gripping drama The Christians, a megachurch pastor delivers a shocking sermon that shakes his church to its core. As tensions rise and loyalties are questioned, this remarkable play explores belief, doubt, and the cost of conviction.

A story that speaks to both conservative and progressive Christians, The Christians invites us to wrestle with deep divides in faith and the search for common ground. Who says red and blue can’t come together?

Exploring Prayer Group

Monthly Prayer Group – All Are Welcome

Join us on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM in the Peace Room for a time of shared reflection and spiritual practice. At IUCC, we believe in the power of prayer—and we recognize that it looks different for everyone. This group is open to all and offers a space to explore a variety of ways to pray, whether through silence, words, movement, or stillness. Together, we seek a deeper, conscious connection with the Sacred—something greater than ourselves.

No experience necessary. Just come with an open heart.
