SUNDAY

SCHOOL

At IUCC, Sunday School is a place where children of all ages can learn, grow, and belong!

  Sunday

  Routine

Children begin worship alongside their families in the Sanctuary. Families who need a quieter space may use our Crying Room, which offers books and small toys, as well as adjustable audiovisual access to the service. The Peace Room is available as another quiet space, and can stream the service live. We also offer an accessibility cart with fidget toys, noise-canceling headphones, and other sensory supports.

About 15 minutes into worship, families share "Fresh Word" together—a recorded message designed especially for young people. Afterwards, toddlers may join our childcare attendant, while children and youth are invited to Plumer Hall for Sunday School. Classes begin with a group welcome before dividing into age-based group lessons and activities. Children are always welcome to remain in worship with their families instead, if they prefer.

Curriculum

Our Sunday School curriculum is thoughtfully designed by Pastor Rachel using resources from Illustrated Ministry, adapted to reflect our Progressive Christian values, and meet the educational needs of our students. Through a blend of lectionary-based lessons and seasonal themes, our students explore how Jesus’s teachings and the Bible stories can apply to their own lives and feelings. As a Progressive Christian church, we also incorporate topics such as Earth Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and current events to show our students how God's love is at work in the world today.

At MYP, we encourage children to ask questions, think deeply, and grow in compassion for all. Our interactive approach includes storytelling, art, games, music, cooking, crafts, role-playing, discussion, and more—creating a fun and meaningful environment where children can thrive together!

Beyond Sunday School

As an extension of our church’s deep commitment to ministerial excellence, MYP is deeply committed to our children’s learning, growth, connection, and belonging both in and out of Sunday School. Between pre-teen and teen Youth Groups, youth-led worship services, fun monthly events, Summer / Fall / Winter camps, liturgical holiday festivals, seasonal programs, inclusive scouting, and more, MYP has all kinds of programming to offer our youth year round!
