OCEC has launched an LGBTQ+ Parent Support Group in partnership with Irvine United Congregational Church (IUCC), an open and affirming congregation for over 30 years. Although the group will meet on the IUCC campus, it is not a religious group.

This peer-led support group offers a space where parents can connect with others on similar parenting journeys. It's a place to share joys and frustrations, swap tips and resources, ask questions, and build a vibrant, supportive community.

We welcome all parents, guardians, family members, and loving friends. During meetings, we will also provide a dedicated space for kids, staffed by caring adults.
The group meets regularly on the 3rd Sunday at 3pm of each month.   Please reach out to Myrna Bohan -myrnabohan@gmail.com to RSVP and for meeting time and location.

Flamy Grant Drama Queens with Heather May - The Gospel Project

✨The Gospel Project: A powerful night where theater meets ministry, and music tells the truth. 🎶🔥

Saturday, March 28th at Irvine UCC

REGISTER HERE !

Join us for an evening that speaks to the real places people live — faith, doubt, joy, grief, and the complicated stories we carry with religion.
 🍽️Dinner begins at 5:30pm
 🎤Concert begins at 7:00pm

This month’s Gospel Project features Heather Mae and Flamy Grant, two acts known for bold storytelling, emotional honesty, and music that makes space for both healing and hope.

🎻Heather Mae is an acclaimed social justice singer-songwriter, fearlessly baring her soul in her music and creating an intimate space of shared vulnerability. Her luminescent 2019 release, Glimmer, drew parallels to vocal powerhouses Adele and Sara Bareilles. With depth of storytelling and mind-melting vocal chops, Heather Mae's music and message unveil a portrait of resilience and self-discovery.

🔥Flamy Grant brings theatrical flair and deep gospel roots to songs that name what so many have experienced but rarely hear sung out loud. Her debut album Bible Belt Baby climbed to #1 on the iTunes Christian Music chart, earning national attention and sparking conversation. Flamy’s work speaks directly to religious trauma, reclaiming spirituality from shame, exclusion, and silence, while celebrating queer joy, resilience, and love that refuses to be denied. 🌈✨

Together, these artists sing about the harm done in the name of faith — and the healing that can follow. They sing about chosen family, spiritual reclamation, forgiveness, laughter, survival, and the holy work of telling the truth. This is music for anyone who has ever felt pushed out, stayed quiet, or wondered if there might be a different way forward.

This is more than a concert. It’s a shared experience. A table. A sanctuary. A night where stories are honored and voices are lifted.

🔥A Bold, Unflinching Courtroom Drama About Faith, Betrayal, and Mercy 🔥

The Last Days of Judas Iscariot
by Stephen Adly Guirgis and directed by Lizzy McCabe

🎟️Click Here for Tickets & Information

This spring, The Wayward Artist is proud to co-produce The Last Days of Judas Iscariot alongside The Larking House in a powerful theatrical collaboration that dares to put Judas on trial.

Set in a gritty corner of Purgatory, this darkly funny and deeply provocative courtroom drama reexamines the ultimate betrayal. Saints and sinners take the stand. Mother Teresa testifies. Pontius Pilate defends himself. And at the center of it all is a question that still haunts humanity: Is anyone beyond redemption?

Raw, irreverent, and unexpectedly moving, Stephen Adly Guirgis’ electrifying script crackles with humor and humanity while wrestling honestly with faith, justice, forgiveness, and the limits of divine love. This co-production celebrates bold storytelling and fearless artistic partnership between two companies committed to meaningful, risk-taking theatre.

🍽️Dinner at IUCC is free and open to all.
🎟️If you plan to attend the performance, tickets must be purchased in advance through The Larking House.

Special for IUCC Members - The Larking House has generously offered a ticket discount for all IUCC members using code IUCC at checkout. They will also host a dedicated talkback for IUCC members to meet the cast and engage in conversation about the show.

Stories of Sacred Disability The Gospel Project Worship

Join us for an Inclusive, Artistic, Embodied Worship with Community

The Gospel Project presents
Holy Ground: Disabled Voices, Sacred Stories
📆Saturday, February 28, 2026

As part of The Gospel Project, Holy Ground: Disabled Voices, Sacred Stories invites us into an evening shaped by disabled lives, stories, and spiritual insight. This gathering centers voices too often excluded or sidelined in faith spaces, lifting them up as sacred witnesses whose stories deepen and transform how we understand God, community, and ourselves.

🍽️We begin with a shared meal at 5:30pm, followed by the worship gathering at 7:00pm. As always with The Gospel Project, the table comes first. Community is formed through food, conversation, and presence before we move into music, storytelling, scripture, and prayer.

🎶📖We are honored to welcome the return of the Peppermint Ridge Choir, whose music reflects joy, dignity, and deep community, embodying what it looks like when belonging is practiced and every voice is invited to participate fully. The evening will also feature Rev. Erin Beardemphl, whose pastoral and theological work alongside the Peppermint Ridge community invites the Church to listen more carefully to disabled experience as a source of spiritual truth and theological insight.

💃🏼🎭We are also honored to welcome Straight Up Abilities, an inclusive performing arts organization where artists of all abilities learn, create, and perform together. Through dance, theater, and expressive movement, their work centers access, dignity, and joy, reminding us that creativity is a shared language and that the Spirit moves most freely when every body is invited into the dance.

🎤Our keynote speaker, joining us from St. Louis, is Rev. Barbara “Bobbie” Blunt, an itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and Pastor of Buren Chapel A.M.E. Church in Herculaneum, Missouri. A seasoned pastor, chaplain, and community healer, her ministry bridges pulpit, hospital, and street-level outreach, grounded in embodied care, justice, and the sacred worth of every person.

🎵We are also honored to welcome Marleena Barber, a vocalist, cabaret artist, educator, and disability advocate whose work is shaped by lived experience. Her artistry offers audiences a powerful encounter with creativity, presence, and the sacred textures of disabled life.

🌱Joining the lineup is Helena Donato-Sapp, a young artist, poet, and disability justice advocate whose work centers intersectionality, embodiment, and belonging. Through her creative voice and public witness, Helena challenges ableism and invites communities to listen more deeply to disabled wisdom.

🕯️Through music, testimony, scripture, and theatrical storytelling, the night explores how God is revealed through bodies and minds that move through the world differently. Rather than asking how disability can be cured or overcome, this gathering asks what disabled life reveals about God, belonging, and grace.

🤍This evening affirms a simple truth: every embodied life speaks of God. Difference becomes a teacher without being demanded. Access becomes a spiritual practice rather than an afterthought. Community becomes the place where all are seen, heard, and welcomed at the table.

♿This gathering is planned with accessibility and multiple ways of participation in mind. ASL interpreters and childcare will be available.

At the same time, the IUCC community will be enriched and strengthened as we show God’s love for our neighbors in practical ways. These classes will serve as an opportunity to learn about each other’s cultures, connect with each other and form meaningful relationships.

We need the help of IUCC members to spread the word out about these classes to the community. Please forward the above flyer to your friends, neighbors, and others in your social network.

Sunday Worship - Evolution Sunday

Join us for a Sunday that celebrates creation, evolution, climate, and the beauty of learning together as we welcome scientist Dr. John D. Patterson

At IUCC, we don’t fear science. We embrace it as a way to see God’s world with honesty and wonder. Join us for Evolution Sunday🌍🧊

John is a postdoctoral researcher in Earth System Science at UC Irvine, studying atmospheric and polar ice data to better understand how Earth’s climate and trace gases have changed over the last century and exploring molecular hydrogen variations over time. Whether you’re a science nerd, a person of deep faith, or someone who just loves a good conversation, you belong here.

🏈🥫Also this Sunday - Souper Bowl Food Donation drive - bring canned food to tackle hunger in our community

All are welcome!

We offer two Sunday services: a Traditional Service at 9:30 a.m. and a Contemporary Service at 11:15 a.m. Adult Sunday School is offered during the 11:15 a.m. service. The traditional service features our amazing Chancel Choir singing wonderful anthems tied to the morning’s theme. The contemporary service is more casual, led by an energetic praise group composed of our choral interns. We welcome you to come as you are and dress according to your personal style.

Sunday services typically include: information about church events, music, prayer, meditation, and a message from the pastor. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month, and everyone is welcome to partake. Our services are also streamed live on Facebook.

Music in Common Concert - Free and open to all!

Saturday, February 7, 2026 • 7:00 PM • Irvine United Congregational Church

Join in! - Let Us Know You’re Coming

By popular demand, Music in Common returns to IUCC with their Black Legacy Project! If you missed them the first time, now is your chance to experience an evening of powerful music, honest conversation, and community connection. 🙌🏾❤️

Music in Common strengthens, empowers, and connects communities through the universal language of music. Their work is built on two simple truths: it is hard to hate up close, and music can change the world. 🌍🎤🎶

Music in Common’s Black Legacy Project is a musical celebration of Black history, created to spark racial harmony, build bridges, and deepen partnership. The show entertains, educates, and inspires with reimagined songs, original music, spoken word, and multimedia. Audiences journey through history while reflecting on today’s Black-White race relations in the U.S., experiencing music as a force for human connection and social change. A screening of the Black Legacy Project documentary short will open the event. 🎬🎵

This evening at IUCC will be uplifting, interactive, and rooted in shared humanity. Bring your friends, your curiosity, and your whole self. 🫱🏾‍🫲🏿🎹✨

Theme: Showing up as our Truest Selves

Launching Jan 31st and every last Sunday in Plumer Hall

Hear more from our own Pastor Craig

RSVP Here for the Free Dinner

This gathering isn’t about watching transformation from a distance. It’s about experiencing God together, listening for the voice of our still speaking God, and building community through honesty, artistry, and care. You’ll hear powerful acting that tells the truth of human experience, moving testimonials that sound like lived faith, and music, dance, and spoken word offered with full-hearted presence. We’ll be lifted by exceptional voices, energized by meaningful storytelling, and centered by preaching that both affirms and challenges us toward deeper compassion.

6:00pm Breaking Bread together

7:15pm Worship

Plumer Hall 4915 Alton Parkway, Irvine CA 92614

Child Care available

More Info:

The night will move through multiple artistic voices. Reverend James Fouther, representing the National Church and the Western Region Generosity Office, will lead praise and worship marked by joyful energy and grounded faith. Fuse Dance Company will offer the power of movement through a pas de deux called T-Shirts and Tanks. A staged scene from John Brittain’s Rotterdam will explore the transgender experience with honesty and care, naming the ache of being misread. Guest artists Oscar Aguilar and Salem Strikes will bring music and spoken word into the arc of the evening. And Johnny Eberhardt, as Cucu Chanel, will open and close the night with a message of inclusion, hope, and faith.

Pastor Craig Tyrl will be preaching a message that affirms who we have been and gently challenges who we are still becoming, reflecting on what it means to be Open and Affirming in a community that said “yes” 33 years ago, a history I love and deeply honor. The theme, Showing Up as Our Truest Selves Before God, names the heart of the night.

This gathering will explore what it means to bring our whole selves—our questions, our stories, our identities—into sacred space without fear, trusting that transformation happens when we are fully seen and truly welcomed.
