Sunday Worship - Evolution Sunday

  • Irvine United Congregational Church 4915 Alton Parkway Irvine, CA, 92604 United States (map)

It’s Evolution Sunday! - At IUCC, we don’t fear science. We embrace it as a way to see God’s world with honesty and wonder. 🌎🧊

To celebrate science and the work of scientists, Dr. John D. Patterson will be at the pulpit at Irvine United Congregational Church for Evolution Sunday.

John is a postdoctoral researcher in Earth System Science at UC Irvine, working in the Saltzman/Aydin Lab. He studies atmospheric and polar ice data to better understand how Earth’s climate and trace gases have changed over the last century. His work includes exploring how molecular hydrogen has varied over the past 100 years, helping scientists trace both human impact and natural climate processes. His research draws from firn air and ice core records, some of the most fascinating climate time capsules on the planet.

At IUCC, we don’t fear science. We don’t see it as something that competes with faith. We see it as another way of understanding God’s world with honesty and wonder. Our progressive community has long believed that truth is not threatened by discovery, and that a curious mind is a sacred gift. We embrace conversations where faith and evidence sit at the same table, where questions are welcome, and where science deepens our awe rather than diminishes it.

Join us for a Sunday that celebrates creation, evolution, climate, and the beauty of learning together. Whether you’re a science nerd, a person of deep faith, or someone who just loves a good conversation, you belong here.

All are welcome!

We offer two Sunday services: a Traditional Service at 9:30 a.m. and a Contemporary Service at 11:15 a.m.  Adult Sunday School is offered during the 11:15 a.m. service.  The traditional service features our amazing Chancel Choir singing wonderful anthems tied to the morning’s theme.  The contemporary service is more casual, led by an energetic praise group composed of our choral interns.  We welcome you to come as you are and dress according to your personal style.

Sunday services typically include: information about church events, music, prayer, meditation, and a message from the pastor.  We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month, and everyone is welcome to partake.  Our services are also streamed live on Facebook.

All are welcome, whoever you are and wherever you are on life’s journey.
