Exploring Identity, Justice, and Community Through Story

IUCC’s DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) Book & Film Club invites you into meaningful conversations at the intersection of race, gender, class, and belonging. Each month, we engage books, documentaries, and stories that challenge assumptions, amplify marginalized voices, and deepen our collective understanding.

Documentary Discussion – Ida B. Wells

On Tuesday, November 4th, we invite you to join us for a thoughtful conversation around the life and legacy of Ida B. Wells. Please watch the documentary beforehand (link below) so we can dive into an engaging, shared reflection.

Link to the documentary: Watch here

Why this matters: Ida B. Wells was a pioneering African-American journalist, activist, and suffragist who fearlessly documented lynching, challenged injustice, and helped shape the fight for civil rights and women’s rights in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Let’s come together to explore questions such as:

  • What can her story teach us today about justice, truth, and moral courage?

  • In what ways was her work connected to the mission of our faith community?

  • How might we live differently for the sake of the values she embodied?

Bring your thoughts, questions, and reflections — I look forward to our time together in community and conversation.

Please note our new contact email: deibookclub@iucc.org for the Zoom Link all future updates. See you soon!
