Not everyone can march in a parade or be at a table for a few hours on a weekend. But you can still be part of the effort to inform people about IUCC. One of the best things we can do is give people a tangible connection to IUCC. Here are the instructions for creating a crocheted heart that attaches to a small card with IUCC information. These have proven to be very popular at events such as OC Pride. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you need some to distribute.
Any color will do, so this is a great way to use up those odd bits of yarn left from other projects. A size 4 or 5 crochet hook works best, but it can be done with other sizes
Make a magic circle or a reverse slip knot (Check the links if you don’t know how to do that or ask your nearest Scout)
4 treble crochet into center of circle
4 double crochet into center of circle
1 treble into center (point of heart), plus one chain stitch
4 double into center
4 treble into center
Slip stitch into center
Pull magic circle closed.
Tie the two loose ends together on the back side of the heart.
Work in loose ends.
You can also knit hearts. Here’s an option for doing that.
